Meadow Burke says to inspect Rapid Lift ring clutches every time they come back from the field. For the 2.5-ton RL-35, take the clutch out of service if the bail shows any of the following:
- Signs of having been bent more than once
- A split or crack that extends into the base metal, including cracks in the welds. A crack that stays within the deformed area is acceptable.
- An "X" dimension below 1.10" or a "Y" dimension below 0.49", measured with calipers
- A bend of more than 10°, checked with the bail/handle gauge
Never grind on the clutch for any reason. The handle (min. "A" 0.46"), clutch lips (max. "B" 0.51"), and lifting cable must also pass inspection.
Refer to the Meadow Burke Rapid Lift Ring Clutch Inspection Guide (PDF) for where to measure each dimension and for the complete inspection criteria. If you're unsure, call Meadow Burke Central Engineering at 1 (866) 730-2904.
