Is this something that would work to funnel a chain or a rope through to hang a swing? We want to protect our tree from the rope or chain. Also, we have problems with squirrels chewing through straps hanging over the branch.

This should work fairly well in that application, yes. It is designed primarily for arborist use to prevent the rope from doing too much (if any) damage to the tree. Your application is essentially the same, although bear in mind you may eventually wear it out and need to replace it.
