We're certainly not pipe experts, but in checking with Caldwell, they stated the BEF-5 is designed for use with regular schedule 40 black pipe. We've sold many of these, no fitment problems yet reported from customers.
Outside diameter of schedule 40 pipe is more than 5", is that correct? What does the BEF-5 use? Caldwell 5" BEF Spreader Beam End Fitting
