There is a slot on each pad where the metal insert slides in and fits very securely. Then the metal insert connects to the metal shank of your spurs with a retainer strap.
How do the metal inserts attach? By the pictures I can't see anywhere on the pad itself you can insert anything. Weaver ProCool Velcro Wrap Climber Pads
